Tips For Dealing With Locked Out Renters

Tips For Dealing With Locked Out Renters

By RPM Central Valley

Ask any owner and they will tell you that one of the most annoying problems to deal with is renters who become locked out of their rental properties.

There’s no denying that getting locked out of a home can happen to anyone, for a variety of reasons, but it can get annoying to deal with those tenants who become locked out on a regular basis. Thankfully there are solutions to this problem if you follow these tips.

Tip #1 – Install A Deadbolt With A Non-Locking Knob In Each Of Your Rental Properties

Doing this will essentially make it impossible for your tenants to lock themselves out again because they won’t be able to lock their doors without having their keys in their hands.

Tip #2 – Make Tenants Pay For A Locksmith

Although some owners may not be open to this tip, the reality is that making your tenants pay for hiring a locksmith may deter them from leaving their rentals without their keys because they won’t want to pay the locksmith’s fees to get them back into their homes.

Tip #3 – Charge Them Each Time You Come Out

Let’s say that you don’t want to hire a locksmith every time your tenants get locked out of their rental properties and you’re willing to let them back into their rentals yourself, before doing this you add a clause to your leases that lets tenants know that you will charge them a minimum of $25 each time you have to come out to the rental to unlock it and let them back in.
